Does your child long to be the next American Idol? Here's music to your ears: Practicing scales may increase his IQ, shows a study from the University of Toronto.
Researchers assigned 144- six year olds to voice, drama or keyboard classes or to no classes at all. After a year, the children who took music lessons gained three more IQ points than their peers. "The structured nature of music lessons can strengthen attention, concentration and memorization." Says study leader E. Glenn Schellenberg, Ph.D.
